Sammy (Sam) Ross Fuller was born in Muscatine, Iowa July 16,1943.
He was the seventh child of eight,the fourth son of Guy Sheridan & Velma Ella Spitznogle Fuller.
Sam wrote the following poem after walking the various cemeteries in his search of Family Ties on his birthday,July 16,1998.
His Poem of prose:
"Finish Your-Line,Welcome Home"
In My Search For Family Ties,
I often spend many hours walking through a cemetery;
Countless cemeteries.
Some remote,with little care provided,to those more visible,
and well maintained.
Each one is different yet with a common purpose,
A place to house those that await God's call;
"To Enter His house,Life as you know it is over,
Come in,you did well."
I am alone in my walk,
Yet there always seems to be
a direction I am drawn,
To a place I've never been;
a marker,a stone,a name,
An ancestor! A Line---
To our heritage,our past revealed.
With two dates,and a simple ---Line between.
What have I found,but by the grace of God,
And their sacrifice,I AM.
As I continue my search
I read their names,
As I write the dates,
Long ago chiseled upon their stone.
The names and dates
Have been weathered by time;
Those many seasons between.
Represented simply by that small---Line.
Some indicate if they were a Mom or Dad
Husband,or Wife,
Others a Daughter or a Son.
The dates are most always different,
Yet common to each is that little ---Line.
Each now fast asleep awaiting God's call,
"To enter His house ,life as you know it is over,
Come in you did well."
A simple ---Line yet uniquely different to each;
It's real meaning is our Time given by God,
Our Life here on His earth.
He wrote it once long before we were born,
Known only by Him;
A period of Time for each to learn.
From the day of our birth we start to die,
To the day of our our renewal;
A New Life.
How important that simple ---Line!
Will we pass the test,
And hopefully hear God's call to
"Enter His house,Life as you know it is over,
Come in,you did well."
As with our birth into this world
He wrote that ---Line;the distance between.
So as in death we all must go,
That second date upon our stone.
Known only by Him,
Until by His choice we have completed our---Line.
If we are to join those names I find;
Our ancestors,
Those that have gone before.
If we plan on being in His welcoming Line,
We must take some Time ,
To Love each other as well as Him.
It is never too late to start living our lives
With Him in mind.
His blessings are ever present,
All we need to do is open our hearts,
Our minds and our eyes;
The true blessings in life are Family and friends.
Give Thanks to Him every day in Prayer and Deed.
