* The Family of Nimrod and Kathy Funk*

Updated May 23, 2007

This is a story of two misplaced Yankees. Nim's family moved from Illinois about 45 years ago and Kathy's Ohio family came to Texas just 20 years ago. So, most of our family history involves the Midwest and Eastern states.

Nim is the fourth Nimrod FUNK in his line. The Funks were formerly from Germany and Switzerland, and came to America as Anabaptists, seeking religious freedom. They settled first in Pennsylvania, then Tennessee and finally to Illinois, where the family mingled into the MILLS, QUINN, and TURLEY lines. Most of the family was in Scott and Morgan counties.

Kathy's maternal line goes back to the Mayflower, with John ALDEN and Priscilla MULLINS being her 9th great-grandparents. Lines joining up here include REDFIELD, ALBAUGH, KEPLER, PALMER, JEROME, WARD, SHEWELL, and HAZEN. Most of these families came from New England to Ohio in the early days of Ohio's settlement (1800 - 1820).

Until recently, I've not had much success tracing the family history of Kathy's paternal ancestors-- the KRISTONs and the HAMROCKs. However, with the opening of the Ellis Island database and the help of a new KRISTON "cousin" in Budapest, the KRISTON line is finally making progress! Now we know that our ancestors were from Kemecse, Szabolcs megye, Hungary.

We began homeschooling several years ago, and I now have very, very little time to research our family history. I hope you can use information that you find on this site, but I probably won't be able to answer any correspondence. After the kids head out to college, I'll get back to my family research!
