I am researching The Furniss Family in Australia. They are the decendants of Thomas Clifford Furniss whose wife was Emma Swift and they were married on 29 September 1844 in the Parish Church, Parish of Leeds,County of Yorkshire.{the name Furniss has been spelt "Furnifs" on their marriage certificate -(I havce a copy of the certificate)}. They later took up residence in Brighton, East Sussex, England.
Thomas Clifford Furniss had the following family (that I Know of) :- Beatrice, Ellen, Thomas Swift*, Joseph Frederick*, John William*, Walter*, and Emma.
Those marked * migrated to Australia in the 1870's
Joseph Frederick was my grand-father, and here are a few facts about him " Joseph Frederick was born in Brighton, East Sussex,England. He emigrated to Australia as an assisted migrant on the vessel "Tyburnia" which sailed from Plymouth on 5 July 1874 & arrived in Sydney (92 days later) on 5 October 1874.
On the ship'a records his name was spelt "Furness"
He married Alice Mary Scott at Forest Lodge, Sydney on 26 September 1844 and had nine Children. He was an engineer and became Resident Engineer at the MWS&DB Ryde Waterworks,Sydney. He died on 21 January 1917 and was interred in the Church of England section of Rookwood (Sydney) Cemetry.
