3. WILLIAM A.2 BROWN (WILLIAM1) was born September 21, 1836 in Illinois, Coles County, and died January 24, 1893 in Douglas County, IL. He married ELIZA J. PAINTER December 1862 in Douglas County, IL.

5. MARTHA JANE2 BROWN (WILLIAM1) was born January 06, 1842 in Coles County, IL, and died July 03, 1924 in Moultrie County, IL. She married MARTIN WOODRUFF July 15, 1860 in Douglas County, IL, son of MOSES WOODRUFF and MARGARET PETRO.

Notes for MARTHA JANE BROWN:
After Martin Woodruffs death in 1895, Martha J. continued to be the mainstay
of the Woodruff family. She had land in Douglas County as well as the land in
Moultrie County and the farm north of Sullivan.
The 1900 census for Moultrie County lists Martha J. Woodruff, Alvin--son, 25,
and Simon Clarens--Foster son, 14 as living in Sullivan Township-rural. Also,
next to Martha J. is listed Albert F. and his family. By all the family
stories, the farm house was divided and two families lived there.
The 1910 census shows that Martha J. is living in Sullivan on W. Strain St.
By that time Alvin had married and he did the farming of this land.
The 1920 census shows that Martha J. lived at 1615 N. Main St. and the 1921
phone book lists her as residence(town).
Martha J. died in 1924 and her obituary claimed her as a prominent member of
the community. She belonged to Methodist Episcopal Church, Rhods Rebecca
Lodge and that she was one of ten Children of William and Rebecca Brown.
Martha J. owned 100 acres of land in Douglas County. She also owned two lots
in Arcola. She owned 120 acres in Moultrie County, IL and two lots in
Sullivan, IL. Her estate totaled $6.907(personal) and her land was valued at
$25,000. J.A. Webb was the administrator of the estate and was bonded for
$16,888. Her heirs were Eva Roane(daughter), Eva Fields(grand-daughter),
Albert F. (son), Roxie (Woodruff) Land, guardian for Paul J. Woodruff.
Martha J. Woodruff is buried at Greenhill Cemetary with her husband and two
children.



Notes for MARTIN WOODRUFF:
Martin Woodruff came to Sullivan, Moultrie County, Il sometime after 1850 and
it is believed that he came after his brother Squire was here.
1860 census for Moultrie County,Il show Martin Woodruff, Margaret,his mother
and George Duvall, 14 born in Indiana. Martin bought several acres of
prime farm land in Moultrie County, IL and married Martha J. Brown in Douglas
County, IL in 1860. They had six children, two died as young children and
they raised four in Sullivan, IL.

Martin Woodruffs estate was valued at $8078.85(personal) and 451 acres of land
in Moultrie County, IL valued at $33.500. Martha J. Woodruff was administrix
of the estate and bonded for $15,000. His heirs were Martha J.(wife), A.N.(
son), A.F.(son), Eva Roane(daughter), E.E. Fields(daughter).
Martin Woodruff is buried at Greenhill Cemetary, Moultrie County, IL. with
his wife and two children.
