8. WILLIAM P.⁴ FURLONG (BENJAMIN FRANKLIN³, MARTIN², JOHN¹) was born March 06, 1847 in Williamson County, IL, and died January 22, 1914 in Saline County, IL. He married (1) JULIA WEAVER January 10, 1870 in Saline County, IL, daughter of ELIAS WEAVER and MELVINA HAMPTON. He married (2) SYLVANIA SISK February 21, 1895 in Saline County, IL, daughter of BENJAMIN SISK and MARY CHURCH.

Notes for WILLIAM P. FURLONG:
William P. Furlong was educated at Marion and enlisted in the army at the age
of 16 at Anna, IL. His regiment was the 110th Infantry of Illinois. He
fought some of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. Two cousins, James and
Benjamin McDonald (Lucinda Furlongs sons) were killed in the war, with one
dying at Andersonville Prison. His unit had such heavy losses that it was
disband and consolidated with the 21st Regiment. He was discharged on June 5,
1865 in Chicago. After the war he attended college at Bloomington/Normal. He
returned to Williamson County and started farming. He married Julie Weaver
and they had seven children. After her death he married Sylvania Sisk and
they had ten kids with four of them living to adults. He is buried at Cain
Cemetary, Saline County, IL with his first wife, Julia.

Pleas Furlong was killed by a car as he was driving the team of horses home
from the field. This happened not too far from the house on Route 13 in
Harrisburg, Ill.
