THE GABLE FAMILY OF THE SOUTH is descended from John Gable, a Palatine or Swiss-German immigrant who came with his family to the Colony of South Carolina aboard the ship "St. Andrew," perhaps on its voyage arriving 31 December 1744. John Gable was granted 250 acres of land in Saxe-Gotha Township (now Lexington County) in 1748, following a period of indentured service in Port Royal, Prince William's Parish (now Beaufort County), SC, to pay his family's sea passage. |
