I am researching the Jacques Gachassin family from Bagneres de Bigores,Hautes Pyrenees, France. Jacques Gachassin my great grandfather, immigrated from the Port of Bordeaux on the S.S. Corinthian departing France in November 1872 from France arriving in New Orleans December 28, 1872. He traveled to an area of South Louisiana called St. Martinville in what is now St. Martin Parish, which was originally called the Attakapas District. He met and married Bazilie Viator in 1881 and they had six children: Marie Udalie, Louis, Marie Anaise, Dominique, Andrew, and Whitney. Jacques Gachassin's parents were Louis Gachassin and Marie Frechou Gachassin also from Bagneres de Bigores Hautes Pyrenees, France. My research has led me to a previously unheard of member named Simon Gachassin who at age 34, in 1884 died in an area of Louisiana called Saint James. He was a native of Tournay, Hautes Pyrenees, France. He is belived to be buried in Donaldsonville, La. I have visited the cemetary there and was not able to locate a marked gravesite. I am not sure of the relation to Jacque Gachassin if there is any at all. Any information relating to Jacques or Simon would be appreciated. I am also willing to share the information that I have. I have had the privilege to make contact online via World Family Tree with someone from Paris with whom we share relations to my great grandfather by marriage. This person has helped me to expand my genealogical research in France and has provided me with much vital information for which I am truly grateful. I would prefer not to name this person without permission. Hence I do welcome inquiries and I would enjoy collaborating with others. |
