Gafford history is very rich and proud .The Gafford family history is verifed and dated to "Magi born in 125 BC",in 125 BC marriage as we know it today did not exist. Only the males were recorded. The records of the Gafford family can be found in the "Medieval ruling families of Europe section" in the records of the Morman Church", from 125 BC to current is beyond this web site. From Europe, to what was the Tennessee Territory(before Tennessee became a state from NC - in 1791, from where the Gaffords came from to where they are today.

Prior to researching, please remember that the Scottish language is NOT as spoken today, yet records will show the "i" was sometimes sounding as "a".

In 1745, Sir Thomas Gifford proudly fought next to "Bonnie Prince Charlie" against the English,The battle ended badly and the English captured the supporters of Bonnie Prince Charlie, yet records show the English "threw live captured captives into the flames alive and began what is known as the "clearences" to rid any future threat. In The "Clearences" the English hunted anyone who served or supported Prince Charlie, killing whole families, outlawing the Tarten, the clan, signs of the clan,,, the English Sir Thomas Gifford escorted and protected Bonnie Prince Charlie to rebuild in Normandy France. Sir Thomas Gifford left France and traveled to the now US( South Carloina), and guess what he found less than 2500 anti English freedom fighters, yes while only a small portion wanted to stand up and fight for freedom as others had a wait and see, Sir Thomas Gifford entered the few who wanted to fight, and stand up against the English and have a free country. His widow after his death filed, went to court in Virigina( as the records showed Gafford, yet it was Gifford due to how it sounded and was recorded) and got the Revolutionary War pension he earned for fighting for a young America.

The Gafford family I am very interested in is family from Yester Scotland BEFORE the the clearences",Gifford was renamed (Yester,Scotland) by the English "Border" friendly Clans. Gifford a Serp of the Hay Clan Scotland is/was a Highlander Clan, after escorting "Bonnie Prince Charlie to Normandy, sailed to South Carolina, moved to North Carlolina, than in 1791 became Tennessee, Cumberland Furnace, Wrigly,Dickson County,Gamble Hollow, Centerville......
