User Home Pages: The Bond Family of Devon & Cornwall, England
This is an ongoing (aren’t they all?) family history project based around the Bond family of Devon and Cornwall.Originally (1600’s) from the parish of Okehampton, Devon, they remained there for a couple of hundred years before beginning to move further afield in the mid 1800’s.My branch of the family ended up not very far from Okehampton in the parish of Calstock in East Cornwall.Other family members went to London and three brothers ended up in Wales. From the early 1800’s a large number of the men became builders and masons including a couple of master masons, but prior to that the family were in the shoe making trade (Cordwainers). My Great Grandfather, Great Grandmother and Grandmother (then a child) emigrated to America in 1923, then moved on to Canada a few years later before returning again to England in 1949. My Grandmother married Joe Marconi, an American of Italian extraction (Devon ice cream played a large part in them getting together apparently) and it was after his death that she decided to return to England with my Mother and my Aunt. On my Father's side, the Southcotts were from Dunterton Parish in Devon (late 1700s).To date I have been unable to take them back any further. | The Bond Family of Devon & Cornwall, England Updated October 27, 2009 |
