3. JONATHAN C.² BAILEY (RICHARD¹) was born 1792 in Faquier CO., VA, and died Oct-28-1857 in Lauderdale CO, AL. He married FRANCES HERALD Abt. 1808. She was born Abt. 1792 in NC, and died Jan-11-1866.

Bailey's Springs Post Office in Lauderdale CO., AL, with Jonathan Bailey as first
Postmaster this Post office opened in 1854. It was discontinued at least three times
before being closed permanently in 1901 with the mail then being sent to St. Florian.

Bailey Springs was settled by Jonathan and his family about 1810, who came overland
by covered wagon from near Pulaski, TN, . He acquired some 200 acres of land from
the government in 1832, and owned Bailey Springs Resort in Lauderdale CO., AL.
He bought the final 40 acres in 1846. Have certified copies of land records.

A Jonathan Bailey was Lauderdale CO., AL Representative in 1824 and 1825.
Have seen records and told same Jonathan, but no personal knowledge;
although the geographical area and time period match.

1850 Lauderdale CO., AL Census, as did son, James Bailey, b. 1829, AL.
