This genealogical research and presentation is dedicated to my father, Cantor Roy Garber, and to all of our children's futures.
Included here are the known branches leading to my nuclear family. On the Garber side, this includes surnames: Rachevsky, Zelinsky (Zelensky), Lazarus, Seide, Schwartz (Schvartzvald), Dorn(Doran),Feinstein and many more.
On the Landerman side this includes families such as: Landerman, Lipsky, Friedman, Pearlman and (from California) Unickel or Unikel and many more.
* 6/1/2001 trip to Brockton, Mass yields lots of Zelinsky and Dorn gravesites. Photos to follow. Connections to other Dorns in Brockton (working with Rachel L. on this). * 7/2001 trip to Pgh yields a treasure trove of landerman side trophies (thanks Ink and Ed!) * 8/2001 Met Steve Bell and family in Vermont and planning return to Lynn to (re-)connect Damsky/Price relatives (thanks Cliff!) * 8/2001 Plumbed the depths of Steve Price's memory in Lynn re: the Damsky/Feinstein/Price branches of the tree; Cliff helped with more Lynn City Clerk's office research. * 9-23-2001 trip to Stepiner and adjoining cemeteries, W. Roxbury, MA, discovers Schwartz & Shain stones and many (unrelated?) Garbers. * 10-1-2001 Trip to Randolph Mass: Many thanks to Charlie Shain for first hand memories of my grandfather, Benjamin, and for access to Schwartz & Shain Yartzheit plaques (below). * 2/10/2002 Shain reunion thanks to Emily and Bernard! Many new photos and much new data! * 12/2002-1/2003 Wonderful new connections with Cynthia Rachevsky Stein, Hagit Gilad and Marty Merin on Harry Rachevsky side ... possible new connections into early 1800 Poland? * 6/2003 As my research reaches further into the past, progress slows. Many thanks for recent data to Rabbi Jonathan Roos. * 11/2005 Been away a long while...ran into roadblocks once this research reached Eastern Europe. Recent family reunion in Pgh (thanks Sally!) prompted a quick revisit. More soon...? * 2/2006 A link discovered on Laura's side to the Kaplan family will soon yield LOTS more data... stay tuned!
As self-appointed archivist and genealogist, I accept full responsibility for any omissions or errors. Your questions, comments, contributions and corrections are not only welcome, but needed!
