Welcome to the Whistler Family Home Page.I have traced over 500 descendants of Major John Whistler, 1756-1829. John Whistler's parentage is unknown, but he is thought to have been related to the Whistlers of Oxfordshire, England and Ulster, Ireland.John Whistler came to America in 1776 as a soldier in Burgoyne's army. He later joined the American army and served as commander at many frontier forts, including Fort Dearborn (Chicago), Fort Wayne and Detroit. His first wife is said to be Anna Bishop by whom he had 15 children. Many of his sons, son-in-laws, and grandsons were army officers.
