The death of Miss Nellie Gardner at the home of her parents in this city, early Thursday morning, though not unexpected, cast a gloom over many hearts, for she was a young lady widely known and beloved. About eighteen months ago she contracted consumption, and although everything possible was done to effect a cure, the insidious disease baffled all human care and skill. To make the circumstances still more sad, at the time of her death both parents were ill and were unable to leave the house at the time of the funeral, which occurred Friday at 2 P. M., Rev Brown conducting brief services at the residence. One of Miss Nellie's last requests had been that her young lady friends should serve as pall bearers, and the Misses Boynton, Loughridge, Penman, Vail, Lockwood and Brewster accordingly acted as such. Deceased was in her eighteenth year.
