William Tipton, son of Samuel and Ruth (Bowen), was born 13 January, 1773. He married Elizabeth Shade 5 July, 1801. He was born in Cumberland Co, PA. They moved to Howard Center, PA in 1796. He built the pioneer house in the town of Howard in 1800. They had ten children: Mary, Shade, Sarah, Matilda, Wm., Jr., Washington, Nancy, Caroline, Absolam and Jamima.
