JOSEPH GARDNER
Joseph W Gardner died at his home in this city Monday night, September 19, 1904 after an illness covering some months. Funeral services were held from the Catholic church Thursday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. Father Regan. Intermint in the city cemetery. There was an abundance of flowers, tributes of loving affection from his many friends.
J.W. Gardner was born on a farm near Howard, Center county, Pennsylvania, February 3, 1842. He came, with his parents, to Iowa in the year 1854 and settled on a farm near Auburn, where he grew to manhood. He was married to Elmira Carter January 1868 at McGregor, Iowa and has ever since resided in West Union. To this happy union were born six children, William F., Minnie J., Fred I., Joe H., Grace M., and Raymond. Those, together with a sister, Mrs. J.W. Callender, and a brother, W.W. Gardner, are left to morn his loss. Those who knew him best will remember him as a kind and generous friend and neighbor.
