Joseph Howard Gardner, son of Joseph and Elvina Carter Gardner, was born in West Union
Nov. 17, 1881, and died at Independence March 5, 1922, aged fourty-one years, three months and sixteen days.

As a youth he attended the public school of West Union and in early manhood took up telephone and other electrical work, being at one time in charge of electrical construction work for the Cass company of Waterloo. Later he was employed by the Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. as wire chief at Fairbault, Minn.,going from there to Great Falls, Mont. He was married in 1910 to Laura Rogers of that city, who survives him. In later years he entered the moving picture industry both as exhibitor and film salesman for leading producers with headquarters at Minneapolis.

He was loved among his friends and acquaintances for his sympathic nature, no unfortunate ever appealing to him in vain. He was an active member of the Benevolent and Protective order Elks No. 1089, at Minot, N.D.

Besides his mother he leaves to mourn his loss three brothers, W.F. of Minneapolis; F.L. of Rockford, Ill; R.C. of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Miss Grayce Gardner of this city.

Funeral services were held at Holy Name church Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock conducted by Rev. Fr. Hehir of Clermont. Interment in West Union cemetery. Floral offerings were many and beautiful.
