John Oliver Thorson II (b. 07/02/1935, d. 02/20/2006)
John Oliver Thorson II (son of John Oliver Thorson and Edna) was born 07/02/1935 in Minot, Ward County, ND, and died 02/20/2006 in Bismark, Burleigh County, ND. He married Glennis Rhoads on 12/14/1956.
Notes for John Oliver Thorson II: John O. "Jack" Thorson, Jr., was born in Minot on July 2, 1935 to John and Edna (Johnson) Thorson. As a child and young man, he grew up in McClusky but also had special years in Portland, OR and Bowbells, ND. Jack graduated from McClusky High School in 1953. After serving his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps, Jack attended and graduated from the University of North Dakota, where he received his B.A. and J.D.
Jack and his high school sweetheart Glennis (Rhoads) Thorson were married on December 14, 1956. They resided in Enderlin, North Dakota and Valley City, North Dakota, where he practiced law until his retirement in 2000. His interests were in Real Estate Law, served as legal counsel to city governments, school boards and served the citizens of ransom County as their States Attorney. He served as general counsel to Inter-Community Telephone Company for twenty-five years. He was a member of the Kiwanis, Elks, ND Bar Association and various other service organizations.
Jack loved hunting and fishing in North Dakota with his family and friends. He will be remembered by all as a gentleman with wit and charm, a person extremely devoted to his family and friends and someone who always had a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face. We all will truly miss his presence.
He is survived by his three sons, John O. Thorson, III (Cathy Jo), Montgomery, IL; Dr. Thomas A. (Barbara), Bismark, ND; David (Sandra), Titusville, FL; his fourteen grandchildren, one great-grand daughter, and his sister Jill Reiswig (Myrle), Minneapolis, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Following the service the family invites you to join them for lunch and fellowship in the church cafeteria downstairs. burial will be held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery Monday February 27, at 10:00 A.M.
