THE BUTCH AND TOMMY SUE GARRETT FAMILY OF NASHVILLE, TN

My Mother, Carrie Alleen LANE (b. 1910), and Father, Ernest Boyd GARRETT (b. 1908, d.1985) , were born in CHAPEL HILL, MARSHALL Co., TN. They grew up along the Duck River. Some of the family names in their groups are GARRETT, ELLIOTT, MARTIN, PETTUS, WILSON, JORDAN, RAMSEY, LANE, MARSHALL, OVERTON, JONES, LEE, BULLOCK, HAYES, BLAIR, CARTER, MCKINNE, HINTON, JACKSON, HUNTER, CULBERTSON, and SHAW. Most of their ancestors migrated to Marshall Co., TN, from North Carolina and Virginia. Many stayed in the Middle Tennessee area, but many more went West to places like Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico, and California. I have learned most of my information from cousins all across the country and I hope to hear from many more. I would be especially interested in stories about their migrations across the country.

Tommy Sue's parents were from SPARTA, WHITE COUNTY, TN. Her Mother was Sally Sue GEER (b. 1910, d. 1982) and her Father was Thomas (Tom) Bayard MAYBERRY (b. 1913, d. 1990). Other names are HICKEY, BRADLEY, SULLIVAN, MCBRIDE, HARGIS and HARDIN.

Tommy Sue and I visited the JOEL LANE HOUSE in RALEIGH, NC, in July, 2002. I am currently working on the many family lines that are connected to Col. Lane. Any contributions to that study would be appreciated and shared with the Joel Lane Historical Society. I also would encourage all Lane descendants to visit and support the Joel Lane House.

All of this is a work in progress and any help or guidance would be appreciated. While I make every effort to be accurate, I'm sure there are some errors. I welcome any questions or comments that might improve my research and compilations. A love and respect for history and for my ancestors makes this a wonderful and joyful project.
