I found this in a 1955 LaRue County Herald today. Thought you might want it.

Mrs. Glover Spratt has an old family Bible printed in 1815 by M. Carey, Philadelphia, Pa. It is published in the King James version and leather bound. For its years it is in good condition.
Most interesting to Mrs. Spratt are the pages inside used for family records. They begin with the marriage of Heath Gardner in 1821. Heath Gardner was born in 1797 and his wife, Anna, in the same year.
The births of nine children were listed from 1822 to 1837. One of them being the great grandmother of Mrs. Spratt.
The records are climaxed by an entry in 1840 saying simply: "Heath Gardner deceased September 17th, 1840".
Among other old papers, some of them placed between the pages of the Bible, are several minutes of meetings of the Russell Creek Association of United Baptists, dating from 1849 to 1855.
Some of the churches which were members of the Association then were South Fork, Knox"s Creek, Three Forks of Bacon Creek, Rolling Fork at Raywick.
An old deed dated 1835 between Henry B. and Benjamin Helm and William Gardner, for 219 acres on South Fork of Nolin, it being part of a 30,000-acre survey papented in the name of William Gerrough. The recording clerk was Samuel Haycraft, of Hardin County.
An old receipt to Mrs. Ann Gardner in account with Thomas Brown in 1840, shows the following purchases:

32 yards black calico...............$10.90
3 silk handkerchiefs.....................1.88
7 yards ribbon.............................1.38
2 pair shoes................................3.00
5 lbs. coffee................................1.00

As 1840 was the year her husband died, it is likely the black calico went tnto mourning clothes for Mrs. Gardner and some of her several daughters.
As a widow she had a large family to rear and care for and she took over the business end of running the plantation, as they called such farms here then. In 1843 she sold to Lloyd Harris 300 pounds of tobacco @ $2.25, and 138 lbs. lugs at 3-4 cents.
She filed settlement as executrix in 1847, and in that same year paid the Sheriff of LaRue County $7.50 for taxes. The receipt was signed by C. W. Thomas, deputy for Joseph Abell, first Sheriff of LaRue County.
A widow with several small children had no easy time in pioneer days, and neighbors and friends were always ready to help.
Heath Gardner was evidently a member of the Young Lodge No. 152, for a copy of resolutions from the Lodge is among the old papers, as follows:
"As it is one of the principal tenets of the ancient and honorable institution of ancient York Masonry to relieve the distress of the unfortunate and bind up the broken hearts and wipe away the tears of orphanage: Therefore be it resolved that whereas Young Lodge No. 152 has heard that the widow of Heath Gardner is at present distressed and having a family of small children that we tender to her the sum of $22.85 and that Bro. W. B. Reed be appointed to tender it to her with a copy of this resolution. (Signed) David Hinter."
It didn't take her long to get the situation under control, as the next year, 1841, a receipt showed a purchase from McIntyre & Edwards of 17 yards of calico, a pair of shoes, two side combs and a tuck comb paid for in cash, $2.10.
Other receipts show the payment of several small accounts owed by her husband.
In 1842, for some reason, she sent a note as follows: Mr. Thomas Brown--Sir, please to credit Mr. Chalin Styles note for four dollars for Mr. Barney Walters and oblige. Ann Gardner."
A tax receipt in 1849 for $1.90 was signed by H. E. Read, deputy, for L. Read, Sheriff of LaRue County.
One of the oldest receipts , before Heath Gardner's death, was written in a very elegent hand as follows: "Received Nov. 4th, 1836 of H. Gardner, three dollars in full for his childrens' tuition. T. S. Kingsbury."
