DENVER LINEMAN DEAD
Denver lineman dead as the result of a sprained knee.
John H. Neely was born in Villisca, Iowa, October 3, 1882.Died December, 26, 1921 the result of a sprained knee incurred in stepping off a truck in Sterling, Colorado a year and a half ago lead to complications which caused three operations.First operation was a carbuncle on his neck, a week later operated on his knee, when they found it necessary to amputate his leg at the hip, which resulted in his death 10 days later at St. Joseph's Hospital under the care of the Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company for 15 months.Every care and everything that could be done was done, yet he endured much suffering.
He came to Rapid City, So. Dakota with his father, brother and two sisters after the death of his mother in 1893 and left Rapid City in 1901 and practically was not heard of by his relatives until September 1921.Through this accident they learned of his whereabouts.He appeared to be getting along and was planning on visiting his father and brother who reside on Spring Creek, So. Dakota, as soon as he was discharged from the hospital.His brother Jim was much shocked to hear of his sudden death and left immediately for Denver, Colorado.His remains was turned over in charge of Heydin Post of which he was a member, having served one year in France as a Private in the Signal Corps and was laid to rest in the Soldiers Plot in Fairmont Cemetary at Denver, Colorado.
He leaves to mourn his death father, brother and two sisters, Mrs. Ed Forest of Omaha, Nebr., and Maggie Neely who resides with her Aunt Mrs. Maggie Overman of Grants Pass, Ore., whom he used to make his home after the death of his mother and aunt,Mrs. Anna Craver, and daughter Maude of 2836 Race Street, Denver, Colorado, who were at his bedside when he passed away.The only relatives that attended the funeral were his only brother James Neely, and aunt and three cousins and his many friends.
