I found the following information in Tayler C ounty History - Printed in 1881 - Richard T. farmer and st ock rasier was born in Pennsylvania in 1847. Served his c ountry during the war of the rebellion, enlisting at-the a ge of seventeen in Co. G. Thirty Fifth Iowa. Afterwards tr ans- ferred to Twelfth Iowa regiment where he served the r emainder of his term. Was engaged at the siege of Fort Bl akely, Spanish Fort etc. Two years after his discharge fro m the service he returned to his native State and engage d at lumbering and remained there five years. In 1870 he m arried Miss Amanda Slyker, a native of Scranton, Penn. Ret urned to Iowa in 1874 locating where he now lives. He ha s a good farm of One Hundred acres, all under cultivation , is a self made man, commencing without means, but with g rit and indomitable energy, he has been able to meet his o bligations and can see his way clear. He takes great inte rest in his childrens education. His farm is well fence d and has a good young orchard, many shade trees, wind brea ks and hedges. Farm locates - section one - Post Office , Bedford Iowa. I checked the records at the Court House i n Bedford, Iowa and R.T. had bought 240 acres from 1879 t o 1891. He bought 28 acres of timber land in 1905 - Osca r bought it in March 1922, where I (Edna Ellen Akers Posten ) was born. R.T. also bought a town property and acreag e in Gravity, Iowa in 1908. Thomas Maher is living on th e old home place - three miles north of Gravity, then eas t one and half miles. Richard and Amanda are buried at Was hington Cemetery, Gravity, Iowa, Taylor County. they wer e the parents of eleven children. The children are contin ued next page.
