John Akers (b. January 02, 1712/13, d. November 02, 1783)
Notes for John Akers:
I am not sure if this is a correct ancestor may have been from Amwell Township
The following is from
[email protected]
You will find that most printed sources say that John's father was Simon II, but as GMNJ said in its early article, there is NO PROOF for the supposition that Rev. Shearer made.Furthermore, a record of the church in Maidenhead, has baptismal record for John, the son of William A (unfortunately the page was torn), but there was no other family whose surname started with A, other than the Andersons in the area at the time and I've never found a record for a William Anderson.I can't logically explain the Simon Akers who d. in 1722 whose estate was administered by Simon, although I'd like to think that some court clerk simply made a mistake.I can find no further information about the first William Akers in Hopewell after 1722.
Monette also claimed that the William who came to Maidenhead was the son of Desiretruth and John Akers of MA.I calculated once that if that were so, he'd have been in his teens when the 1698 agreement was signed for Maidenhead's meeting house. Also, I found William Akers witnessing a deed in Newtown between a Phillips and Hunt, both of whom were 1698 Maidenhead settlers a couple years earlier. It's unlikely that a teenager would have been a witness for a legal documents much less party to the 1698 agreement.
I haven't done much with the Akers for several years, but I didn't want to send information without those couple cautions.
You may want to check this website:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nj/hunterdon/hunterdon.htm
Look under court cases for the case involving Thomas Akers. It mentions your William coming to visit his mother.
Anyway, the descendency chart from John and Martha Akers follows my signature.( I descend from Thomas and Ruth Akers). In a separate email, I will paste some of the documentation, especially for your line.
Enjoy!

Robin,
Documentation that I've gathered on some early Akers follows. It gets a bit dicey with all the Williams in the 18th century.Michael Caldwell has done a lot with Robert's line and I think he believes the William who d. about 1815 in Hunterdon is Robert's son, the only one of Robert's children not to have gone to Bedford Co., Pa.
I'll see if I transcribed your William Akers' pension application and send it as an attachment.
