Notes for Emma Amelia Gardner:
Emma was an excellent musician , singer and teacher , playing the harmonium in St Paul's Church
from the age of thirteen. Note her name is shown as thanked in the Harbour Grace record in 1866
when she would be 16 . This summer she visited her brother , Rev. George at Heart's Content for
the laying of the cable. She had the honor of playing the " Te Deum " for the service on the harmonium
which is in the Newfoundland museum in St. Johns.
She kept house ( with her sister May ) for the family at Harbour Grace after her mother's death , and until young John's death the next year. About the following year they all moved to Heart's Content
which was flourishing, after the landing of the cable. She then took over the church organ and choir
and began teaching music.
