George Unicume (b. 01 Mar 1847, d. 29 Mar 1877)
Notes for George Unicume:
After training as a cable-operator in London, he came out to Newfoundland as one of
the original operators on the " Great Eastern " , and is officially listed as being on board.
He was one of the few who were left there on her first arrival to the island in July 1866
He worked for the Anglo American Telegraph Co. as a faithful servant until the end of
January 1877 when he contracted a bad cold which quickly developed into
" galloping consumption " and died March 29, 1877 at the age of 30.
