Find Family
There are at least six Wilson families in Rockbridge County. The branch that I am researching began with Robert Wilson, who was born in Ireland and died in 1745. John Wilson was one of his surviving sons. He married twice and died in 1754. Two of his four children were named JAMES AND WILLIAM WILSON, and they, on May 16, 1760, emigrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and thus began the Wilson clan in America.
The Gauldin Family in America began with John Gaulding and descends from his line through WILLIAM TURNER GAULDIN, a veteran of the Revolutionary War. The Gauldin family eventually settled in Pittsylvania County, Virginia and Rockingham County, North Carolina.
I would like to invite anyone who has any interest or affiliation with the Wilson Family of Wilson's Springs, the Wilson Family of Rockbridge County, or the Gauldin Family of Pittsylvania County, Virginia to contact me.

    W.G. Atkins and his wife Maude were the parents of my grandmother, Nannie Bet Atkins. W.G. Atkins owned and operated a store and apple orchard in Woolwine, Virginia and was one of Virginia's unknown success stories, having brought himself up from poverty as a result of hard work and the entrepreneural spirit. At his death, he left nine children and his six sons themselves became successful businessmen.

    My grandmother married Lester P. Gauldin and they had three children. They lived most of their lives on a farm in Charlotte Courthouse, Virginia though my grandmother came to live with us in Richmond after the death of my grandfather. Everyone who met my grandmother loved her.
  • Lester P. Gauldin (167 KB)
    This is photograph of my grandfather, taken when he was around the age of twenty. He was known throughout his life as Lester although the census records his name as Posey G. He served under General Pershing in the First World War, and married my grandmother in 1921. Lester died in 1959 and is buried near the farm at Charlotte Courthouse.
