Wilson Cemetary Locations

Oxford Presbyterian Church Cemetery Located on Rt. 677 off Rt. 612. The church
began before 1763,organized in 1768. A log structure was erected it was
reorganized in1843. Old Oxford shared a minister with the Church on Colliers
Creek in 1835 and was then dropped. It was re-established in 1843. The original
building was a log structure erected circa 1763,replaced in 1811 by a stone
building at the site of the presentchurch. The present brick building was
dedicated in 1868. James Gold and wife deeded the land for the Church and lie
buried in the Old section of the cemetery in unmarked graves. Church Oldest

Old Monmouth Presbyterian Church Cemetery Located off Rt. 60 at Whistle Creek.
Begun 1741, Organized 1746. The location at that time was onthe North branch
of the James River (now Maury) in the area known asthe Fork of the James. The
original structure was a Pole buildingerected c1748 on Woods Creek. This was
replaced by a building ofhewn timber on Whistle Creek in 1767 and was then
called "Hall'sMeeting House". In 1789, a stone building was erected
and the name changed toMonmouth. A Sunday school was operated thru 1881 and
this locationalso served as a school for black children until the 1890's/
Burials were discontinued about 1885.

631. Building was erected in1853 and reconstructed in 1884. New Monmouth was
formerly OldMonmouth.
