Notes for ALEXANDER GAULDING, SR.:
According to Dr. Gaulden's book "Gaulden..a seven hundred year history", Alexander Gaulden "son of Anne Stuart and John Gaulden of New Kent Co died Dec. 1752, and James Stuart was given custody of one of his minor children. This would support the assumption that his mother's maiden name was Stuart. Perhaps James Stuart was Anne's brother, thus the court ruled in favor of the great-uncle (James Stuart) rather than the uncle (John Gaulden II)"
The source given for this information is "The Court of Dyer and Terminer in Williamsburg, VA, Library, E69626.8 975.51 N46 SA24, and in "Prince Edward County Court Records, Book 1, p. 115 , March Ct. 1757" as well as in the "Barksdale Family History and Geneology"


Gaulding, Alexander--executed for highway robbery at Williamsburg
(Wmsbrg. disp. of 12 Jan) 1753. As you can see, this is well before our
Moses Gaulding of Pittsylvania County. And this is the colonial
capital--Williamsburg, VA. (information from Linda Lepow, although Dr. Gaulden states death in Dec. 1752)

The following information has not been substantiated:

Information copied from Ancestry.com database. These two were possibly father and son, the elder Alexander Gaulding born around 1775 and the younger Alexander born about 1776 in Prince Edward Co. Virginia. The son married Betsy Cason.
