| This page is the culmination of several years of research at home and abroad by my father, Eric Geddes, who gathered files and information about the Geddes family and ancestral links dating back to 1728. The end result of this extensive research is documented in a publication entitled "The Way It Was". My father writes:- "Family origins are not all things to all people. There are those who find the idea of delving into the past to be nothing but the resurrection of events best left undisturbed, lest the good name of the living should in some way be tarnished. Sometimes there is no thought to the historical value of the knowledge gleaned from records stored and forgotten, or activities of our ancestors lovingly reported through each generation." "To become a devotee of genealogical mania, it is first necessary to receive the motivation to step into the seemingly bottomless pit of information which is guaranteed to lead you up more creeks without a paddle and more dead ends than the imagination can conceive." "My motivation was stirred when Donald, my elder son, sought information about my grandfather. I was embarrassed to have to admit to almost total ignorance of the family history preceding my grandmother, who was living during my childhood. As a consequence, the seed for knowledge had been sown." "Twenty years later, it had become evident that the passing of time had made it necessary to process the accumulation of information and make it available in a readable form to the living descendants of the generations represented. The following history is my version of events within the family structures, commencing in 1728."
