My own precious Mother
It is my sad duty to write you of Father's death . He came on with Arthur last Tuesday , was taken to the Polyclinic Hospital N.Y. where it was decided that a large tumour was on one of his kidneys and that an operation would benecessary , as one of the kidneys was totally gone . So the operation was performed yesterday , but the other kidney could not perform the work of two as was hoped would be the case . He chose the operation in preference to enduring the pain he had suffered of late . On Sunday we all went over to see him and he was in such good spirits and felt much more comfortable that we plucked up hope but when I went over at 10.30 this morning to enquire for him he had had a comfortable night , but was then in a critical condition so the Dr. telegraphed for Arthur and he and Harold and I stayed with him until the last .He recognised us and smiled but of course was too weak to talk . He died calmly and peacefully and we couldn't wish him to live and suffer agony . The funeral will probably take place tomorrow
( Wednesday ) or the day after .
May God bless & keep us 'till we meet again .
Your affectionate daughter ,
Ella
P.S.
Papa wished you to come here to us in case of his death , so we will be preparing for you all -
I feel weak and tired , so forgive all blunders , and with dearest love to each and all
Your own daughter
Ella
