My name is Mary Gervasi Torgersen. I have recently started gathering information about my family heritage. Below you will find a list of names that I know are in my family background. If you think you might be related please email me at the address at the bottom of this page.

Gervasi of Castellammare del Golfo, Sicily. My fathers parents immigrated to NY, USA around 1926. Their names were Antonio(Anthony) Gervasi and Castrenza (Nancy) Borruso Gervasi. Anthony's parents were Guisepee Gervasi and Paola Fundaro Gervasi of Castellammare del Golfo. Anthony had at least one brother, his name was Frank.
Castrenza's parents I only have last names.
Father Borruso, Mother Navara. I do know that they had a vineyard in Castellammare del Golfo. They also made olive oil. He was a merchant and had ships. I think some of Castrenza's brothers may have been captains of the ships. The vineyard was on a hill overlooking Castellammare del Golfo.
My dad has memories of cousins in NY named Joseph and Pete Bologna. I have come in contact with him recently, and he has given me the following information: Their father changed their last name to Leonard when Joseph was 20. Joseph and Pete's mothers name was Mamie Navarra. Her parents were Peter and Thomasa Navarra. Mamie had three brothers, Albert, Benito and Joe, she had at least one sister named Sadie, Joseph thinks Sadie married Leonardo Cinterino (a claranetist with the Philharmonic Orchestra). He also has a cousin named May Tocco. The mother of Joe's father was named Constanza Pilara before she married his grandfather Joseph Bologna. Grandfather Joseph Bologna had sandy red hair and blue eyes. He has been tracing this family history and has some intersting infomation.
I have also learned of a cousin in NY that my dad grew up with named Josephine Gervasi. She would have been born in April 1923. My dad's name is Joseph. They were born on the same day.
