Ken & Michelle Gerlach's Family History:Information about Jacob Carpenter
Jacob Carpenter (b. 1717, d. Bef. Dec 11, 1772)
Notes for Jacob Carpenter:
Member of the Legislature from 1766 to 1772. In addition, he practiced surveying and farming.
Jacob's children were : Salome, Susanna, Elizabeth, Mary, Magdalena, Esther, Catherine, Henry, Martin, Jacob and John Carpenter, who was born after his father's death. It is not clear in Casanova's history which of the children belongs to which
wife, but in the will of Magdalena she mentions Esther, Catherine, Martin and John Carpenter as her children living at the time. Marriage information as it was researched by Casanova is in his book on page 10. I am not including it as Casanova
testifies several times to it's "vague nature."
Jacob's will was admitted to probate 11 Dec 1772. There is in this will a provision to establish a school which was to remain open for ten years, where his children and neighbor's children should be educated. Provision is also made for a
schoolmaster, who shall hold the full term contingent upon his conduct.
