Augustin Gerspacher (aka Gerstbacher; Gesbocker) Family Page
I am researching the Gerspacher family from the Black Forest village of Mambach in Baden, Germany. There are many similar family names from this southwestern part of Germany (e.g., Gersbach, Gersbacher, Gerspach, and Gerspacher) My great-grand- father, Augustin Gerspacher, who was born in 1837, emigrated to the U.S. in 1862 and served in the Union Army during the Civil War under the name August Gerstbacher. He married Rose Ann Riley, who was born in Ireland in 1844, in Brooklyn in 1866. They had six children: Mary Josephine (1868), John Joseph (1869), Rose (1873), Charles Augustus 1876, Frederick 1882), and Lillian (1883). The family name was changed to Gesbocker when they moved from Staten Island to Elizabeth, NJ around 1880. I am trying to find information about the descendants of Rose and Frederick. She was born in Brooklyn and he in Elizabeth, NJ. She married John Logan Fay in NJ in approx. 1890 as Rose Gesbocker and they had three children: John Logan (1896), Rose (1897) and Luke (1901). Frederick Gesbocker married Ella Lynch in California after he moved to San Francisco with his widowed mother. They had one child: Alyce (1913). |
