| The Getz and Gelbart families lived in today's southern Latvia and northern Lithuania during the later part of the 19th and early 20th centuries. According to family lore, they migrated to this area from Poland beforehand. During the early 20th century, many of our ancestors immigrated to South Africa, the United States and Israel.Most of those who remained behind were murdered in Subate by their Latvian neighbours. One of the leaders of the killings was the local photographer, many of whose pictures are in family albums of those who immigrated before the Holocaust. | |
