Firman purchased it from Mary-Elizabeth's brother, Jim Walker, in 1920. The farm is now owned in 2 parts, South side of the hiway is own by Grandpa's sister, Nell's children and the North side is owned by Grandpa's son John.
Some of Nanette's Memories of Grandma and Grandpa: When I was little my parents used to let me stay with Grandma and Grandpa Akridge quite often. Once when I was with them (I must have been two or so) I discovered that underneath the wallpaper was another layer of wallpaper with dolls on it. I wanted to see more of those dolls, so I kept peeling the paper off the wall. Apparently Grandpa warned me and warned me to stop. He finally told me if I did not stop, he was going to have to spank me. Well,, I did not stop, and that was probably the only spanking I ever received from my grandparents! (This story was told to me by my parents. I don't remember it.) Almost always when visiting with my grandparents, Grandpa wouls take me t the corner confectionary. I would often insist on taking a large monkey, named Moe, with me. Grandpa always tried to get me to leave it at home, finally saying that, if I took the monkey, he would not carry it at all. I would have to carry it the whole way. Everytime we went, Grandpa would end up carrying the thing home. One of my most vivid memories of before Grandpa died, is sitting at the breakfast table with Grandma cooking and Grandpa enjoying his coffee. Grandma would make me jelly toast cut into 4 squares and Grandpa would put lots of cream and sugar in his coffee and pour some of it into a saucer for me.
