Notes for *Clara Odessa Miner: [rachel's without ex's with no children.FTW]
Memories of Grandma Akridge: Some of Nanette's memories: After Grandpa died, I would go into St. Louis and spend a week with Grandma in the summer. Some of things I remember about that time are riding the bus downtown to go to Woolsworth's, riding the escalator at Woolsworth, sitting at the counter at Woolsworth to have ice-cream soda's. Hearing the vegetable man in the early morning hours calling out to the housewives to come buy his vegetables. Getting ice-cream from the ice-cream man (boy, was it hard to decide if I wanted an ice-cream bar from the ice-cream man or a soft-serve from the other truck!), and making Brownie Stew for Mrs. Sullivan who live upstairs over Grandma. Some of the things I remember were not so pleasant. One time when I was at Grandma's, I was jumping ropw out on the sidewalk. I was in sandals and that sidewalk was uneven just about everywhere. I jammed my big toe so hard that it was swollen and bruised all week. I still cannot bend that toe properly. Grandma and Uncle Wendell took vacation with us almost every year to somewhere. the night before we left, they would come out and spend the night at our house. We would get up early in the morning and head out. John and I could hardly wait, Grandam always brought a big bag of "stuff" with her. But, we couldn't touch it until we were truly "on vacation". Not many miles down the road, it was official. Oh, they were just cheap little puzzles, games, and snacks. But, we thought we'd been handed the moon when she handed us that bag and let us dig in. Some of Rachel's memories: I remember Grandma playing the piano, the song I remember most is "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms". We would go into St. Louis to visit with Grandma, I remember the apartment on Botanial Street. Trina and I would spend a week with Grandma, she would take us to downtown St. Louis on a city bus. We would do some shopping, eat lunch at Woolsworth we would also go to Kresge. To me this was such a wonderful memory and special time with Grandma. I also remember she like to watch Johnny Carson, and crunch ice cubes while she watched TV.

Marriage Notes for *Clara Odessa Miner and *John William Akridge: [rachel's without ex's with no children.FTW]
Kay Akridge Williams said that Clara and John were married either the day before or the day after John's birthday in August of 1921. Some of Nanette's Memories of Grandma and Grandpa: When I was little my parents used to let me stay with Grandma and Grandpa Akridge quite often. Once when I was with them (I must have been two or so) I discovered that underneath the wallpaper was another layer of wallpaper with dolls on it. I wanted to see more of those dolls, so I kept peeling the paper off the wall. Apparently Grandpa warned me and warned me to stop. He finally told me if I did not stop, he was going to have to spank me. Well,, I did not stop, and that was probably the only spanking I ever received from my grandparents! (This story was told to me by my parents. I don't remember it.)
Almost always when visiting with my grandparents,
