The Gholson Family Home Page

Hello and welcome to my home page.
In the U.S., the Gholson name probably originated with Anthony Gholson, Sr. in Spotsylvania, Virginia in the late 1600s. I am a 10th generation descendant of Anthony Gholson, Sr. and I am researching the Gholson family. My branch later settled in Western Kentucky, although I am from Virginia (surprisingly close to where Anthony owned land).

As I said, I am in the 10th generation:

5. John F. Gholson & Rebecca Hayes (McCracken County, Kentucky which was part of Ballard Coutny)
6. Ferdinand Fletcher Gholson & Mary Catherine Powell/Mintie McWhorter (McCracken County, Kentucky)
7. Herschel Tilghman Gholson & Mable Holland (McCracken County, Kentucky)
8. Richard Lee Gholson & Lucie Marie Burnley (McCracken County, Kentucky)
9. William Herschel Gholson & Rebecca Butler (Moved from McCracken County to Fairfax, Virginia)
10. Gwyn Gholson (Fairfax, Virginia)

Althougth the bulk of my information pertains to the Gholson family, I have also discovered information on the Burnley's, Butler's, and Dexter's through my other grandparents.

So far, I've gathered over 1,500 names, but I am missing a lot of important dates. If you discover discrepancies or know of information that I should include, please let me know.

• The Squire, Ferd F. Gholson (19 KB)
  This is my gg-grand father, Ferd F. Gholson. He was born in October 28, 1856 in Ballard County, Ky and died August 13, 1913 in McCracken County, Ky. He first married Mary Powell and they had two children before she died. He then married Mintie McWhorter and had 10 more children. Ferd is buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Paducah, Ky. with a wife on each side.

  Mintie McWhorter was Ferd's second wife and my gg-grand mother. She was born August 15, 1853 in Casey County, Ky and died September 10, 1910. She married Ferd on October 29, 1885 after his first wife died in 1883.
