Starting Sept. 5, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum
message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles
will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will
no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.
This page is designed to disseminate information on the family ancestry and relations of the Giammichele Family. At present I can trace two very distinct Giammichele lineages back to Abruzzi, Italy. One line originated in Lentella, Italy and emigrated to Brisbane, Australia. Another line originated in Dogliola, Italy and emigrated to Canada and the United States. Ultimately I would like to tie the two lineages together but I have not been able to accomplish this at present. Lentella and Dogliola are very close together and there must be a direct connection in the not too distant past. One branch of the Dogliola lineage settled near Cortland, New York and changed the spelling of the Giammichele surname to Giamichael. This spelling, while unique to that small group of descendants, is nonetheless an accurate reflection of the pronunciation used by most of the Giammichele descendants in the United States.
I still would love to hear from more descendants of this Cortland Giamichael lineage. I believe my reports may contain some errors with respect to this lineage and I welcome any feedback.
I am also seeking to expand my research back to the country of our ancestors, Italia. If anyone is presently in contact with some of our Italian relatives and would care to share an address(regular or e-mail) with me, this would be much appreciated. Recently I have located(or he located me) a fellow family member, Giuseppe Giammichele, living in Douai, France. Giuseppe is a descendant of the Lentella, Abruzzi lineage, many of which emigrated to Australia.
Special thanks to Peter Anthony Giammichele in Burlington, Ontario, Canada; Joseph Jr. Giammichele in Elmira, New York; and Oscar Giammichele in Brisbane, Australia. Your efforts are deeply appreciated.
My time has been restricted as of late and the changes to the family tree are not as frequent.
