Joseph Hiram Gilbert , my great great ,great great grandfather was born about 1755-56 and at that time or there after move to or lived in Lee County ,Va..He was married to Nancy Ann Cheek ,who had previously been married to Isaiah Cheek who was killed in the Rev. War. The couple had five children ,three boys and one girl. The boys were James , Thomas T., John and Joseph. The only girl was Mary ,born in 1790 and later married William Sandefer ,they had five children. Thomas T. was born in 1786 and married Malinda Davis ,they had seventeen children. Thomas is sometimes confused with Thomas P. Gilbert, which has caused much confusion amoung researchers. James was born in 1787 and married Sarah (Sally) Marshall and they had seven children.James started several Baptist Churches in the VA. and TN area. Joseph Gilbert born May 11,1792 married Mary Mollie Vicars , they had five children and lived in Lee County Va. but later moved to DeKalb County ,Smithville, Tn. One of the sons Joseph Barker Gilbert ,born 1822 married Elizabeth Chambers and they had ten children and settled in DeKalb ,County, Smithville , Tenn , where they lived and died. For the most part their children stayed close to the area of DeKalb and Warren County. I am most interested in any information concerning these family heads ,starting with Joseph Hiram .
