Ancestors of Charles Chris Gilliland

I'm having a tough time in researching my family name Gilliland. I've traced them back to North Carolina 1847, but there the trail grows cold.
I've had much better luck with my other family lines. They include: Whiteley, Wheeler, Hunt, Unbehagen, Kelley, Sutton, and Blair. These were my great-grandparents and my starting points, many other family names have married into these lines.
