In 1865 Alfred J. Gill (1830-1897) was responsible for relocating a line of Gills from New York (near Buffalo) to Michigan (Grand Rapids). We have traced his lineage back to the late 1700's, but don't have a connection yet to the country they emigrated from.

Alfred's parents were John Gill (1794-1864) and Harriet Anderson (1800-1860). Alfred's paternal grandparents were Samuel Gill (1769-1856) and Nancy Graves (1772-1814). The family lived previously in Eaton, Madison Co., NY, and in Whitehall (formerly Skenesborough), Washington Co., NY. There is some evidence that prior to 1794 they lived in Colrain, Franklin Co., MA.

Alfred's descendents include my great-grandfather, William E. Gill (1856-1942), my grandfather, Gaylord C. Gill (1894-1965), and my father, Gaylord C. Gill, Jr. (1918-1979).
