| I am researching my parents ancestors. My father's family originally came from Scotland and England and my mother's from England. The surnames I am looking for are Gillis, Goss on my father's side and Cookson, Anderson on my mother's side. My father's grandparents settled in P.E.I., Canada and my mother's grandparents came over as Home Children during the first world war and settled in the Huntsville, Ontario, Canada region. One of my father's uncles left P.E.I. to go out west to Trail B.C. My father's family settled in the Glen Valley and Pleasant Valley area of P.E.I. The dates that this will have occurred are in the middle to late 1800's, as my grandfather Malcolm John Gillis was born in Scotland in 1875. His wife Phebe Ann Goss was born July 25, 1884 in Pleasant Valley, P.E.I. Her father was William Goss and her mother was Mary Jane McPherson. She had a brother named Harry and sisther named Grace. Her father William Goss was a butcher. Malcolm John Gillis was a farmer. His brother Duncan went out west and another brother Dan went to the United States. On my mother's side. My great grandfather John Cookson came from Blackpool, England and my great grandmother Maureen Pleace came from Turkway, England. My grandmother's parents, John Anderson came from Dorset, Ontario,Canada and her mother Lydia Loveless came from Coldwater, Ontario, Canada. They also were farmers. Both were born in England and also came over as Home Children during the war. I am looking for any information on both sides of the family and will share any information I have. |
