Following a Dream - The John A. Gill, Jr. Family Home Page
The Gills of this story were Scotch- Irish and migrated from the Ulster Plantation in Northern Ireland to the New Jersey/Pennsylvania area of the United States in the mid 1700s. After settling in Pennsylvania they later moved, about 1776, to the Chester area of South Carolina. Several fought in the Revolutionary War. Looking for new lands, they next moved to the vicinity of Boonesborough Kentucky, where they helped subdue the indians. Continuing their pioneer spirit the families migrated to Harden County Tennessee where they received land for fighting in the War of 1812. From there it was back to Kentucky where the settled in Hopkins County. My parents met and married in Chicago Il., and my family was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. Other family names include Cooper, Hamilton, Coburn, Peyton, Scott, Howerton, Rodgers, and Petty. |
