Current research is directed to the Highwardens who migrated to Ohio and beyond in the late 1700s and early 1800s. Most of the Highwardens, but not all, were located in Ohio by 1820. One family, head of household, James Highwarden, was located in Morris Township, Greene County, PA in the 1820 Federal Census, and another, Simeon Hiwarden(sic)was still located in Greene County according to the 1830 Federal Census. James was most likely the same James shown on the 1810 Federal Census for Randolph County, Virginia. Still another Highwarden, Jacob, was located in Wayne County, New York State on the 1840 Federal Census. An early migrant to Ohio, Eli Highwarden, then migrated to Colchester Township, Essex County, Ontario, Canada some time following his marriage in 1823, at which time he married Rebecca Taylor in Ross County, Ohio. He and his family subsequently appeared in the 1851 Ontario Census. Rhodam Highwarden was living in Scioto County, Ohio at the time of the 1820 Federal Census, while Shadrach was living in Perry County, Ohio and Abednego was living in Pickaway County, Ohio for the same census. |
