FAMILLE GILLETTE IS SEARCHING FOR A FEW GOOD SURNAMES And we've made some fantastic progress! Although we are waiting for information from the Lithuanian Archives in Vilnius on the NORGAILA side of the family which they are compiling,we are now in contact with some remaining Norgaila's in Lithuania via the internet and snail mail. It seems that the surname Norgaila is as rare in Lithuania as it is here! Why am I not surprised by that?
Still, we are trying to research a Norgaila family that lived in South Windsor, Connecticut around 1976. If anyone knows of this family, drop us a line. PLEASE! And the currently elusive RAKAUSKAS side.
We are now beginning our search in earnest for the other Lithuanian link - SKINKIS/VALENTINAS. We have obtained an obituary for my grandmother, Elizabeth Skinkis. It appears she might have had a brother and a sister, but we are still uncertain. We're researching a Veronica Giraitis, Emily Taylor, and another Skinkis. Rocco, Urbon, Radik are three other surnmaes listed in the obituary. Elizabeth passed away in February of 1991 and resided in Brighton Park - Chicago, IL. Perhaps these are relatives? Friends?
THORNOTN We have located a current Thornton who has nearly completed researching the Thornton side of the family, but we're always looking and are hoping to exchange/trade information.
We are really having a difficult time with my mom's side of the family. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY. ANY information would be greatly apreciated. I am willing to look into ANY possible NOVAK/BAUMANN link.
NOVAK First names we are searching include Sonia, Sophie, Lois, Shirley, Constance, a Hank or a Henry, and Leona. There could be an additional daughter who resided in the New York area, but we are unsure. The above siblings were all born roughly between 1900 and 1918 in Javornik, Poland - which is now considered Czecholslovakia - and possibly New York.
Upon arriving in America, the parents, Francis Henry Novak and Katherine (or Catherine(sp?),who's maiden name is unknown at this time) set up shop in Pennsylvania. They owned and operated an inn for miners before the parents divorced. Katherine took her children and settled in the Roger's Park area of Chicago.
Sonia Novak was married to a man by the name of Cliff who's surname is unknown at this time. Their union produced one child, Nancy. Her whereabouts are also unknown at this time.
Lois Novak was married to a man named Fred who's surname is unknown at this time. They remained childless and resided in Lake Bluff, IL until Fred's passing - probably in the early to mid 1970's. Lois later remarried a man by the name of Ken. Her whereabouts are unknown at this time.
Shirley Novak married a man by the name of Joe Alt. They resided in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Their union produced two children, John and Sandy. John married Mary. Their union produced two children, John and Karen. Whereabouts and maiden name are not known at this time.
Leona Novak was married to Alexander Baumann for a breif time. Alexander and Leona are the people we are experiencing the most roadblocks with. Any information concerning these individuals would be a great help. Alexander was born in 1913 in Arad, Romania and had a brother, John Baumann. John Baumann was married to Henriette Claeyssens. They had one son, Henry.
SCRANTON Made a little progress on the Scranton/REED side of the family. The Scranton's we are researching are a John circa 1700's? He was, we're told, appointed "govenor" of Pennsylvania by the King at the time. In researching, we have found the Penn family, of course, and the story of Pennsylvania's history, but have yet to find any "govenors" other than Penn.
Joseph H. Scranton was cousin to brothers Sheldon T. Scranton and George W. Scranton. These brothers are the same that founded Scranton, PA and we're t
