William L. Byrd was educated at the Chickasaw Manual Labor Academy about two miles from Tishomingo. During the Civil War he was in a Confederate Company commanded by Capt. Edmund Gardner of Towson Company. The company later became a part of the First Choctaw Regiment under the command of Col. Sampson Folsom. Byrd was an Adjuntant. In 188, he was elected Governor of the Chickasaw Nation, and again in 1890-1892.

      104. Catherine Caroline4 Moore (Delilah3 Love, Sally2 Colbert, James Logan1) was born 1816, and died 1896. She married James Issac Colbert, Jr. January 25, 1833 in Shelby County, Tennessee, son of James Colbert and Susan James. He was born Abt. 1805 in Chickasaw Country.

Notes for Catherine Caroline Moore:
notes from Hamm: Her father calls her his eldest daughter in his will and the wife of James Colbert. This was in Holly Springs, Mississippi. James & Caroline were married by minister Sam M. Williamson, with Thomas Allen as security. He was a mason and belonged to the lodge at Doaksville. He came to Old Goodland first, then returned to Mississippi and brought his family to the Choctaw nation settling where Boggy Creek runs into Red River, 20 miles north of Paris, Texas. Here he cleared land, build a home and slave quarters, and conducted a plantation. Caroline was about 80 when she died. Her granddaughter, Mrs. Pound said Caroline is buried at Union Chapel, Pound Valley, and that James was buried at Old Goodland.
