| I am interested in finding any information about by ancestors. I know a few of my family surnames. The primary names are GILMOUR and JOHNS(T)ON. A few others are Moon, Swett and Gilmore (possible other spelling since some census I have periodically change the spelling from year to year for the same person). It is possible that the Gilmours may have come from the province of Ulster in county Antrim in Northern Ireland. They may have previously come from a coastal area of Scotland. I am not sure if they came right to New Bedford, MA. The Johns(t)ons may have come down from Nova Scotia settling in Maine then on to New Bedford, MA. They may have originally been from England but I tend to believe more from the border of England and Scotland. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I have been trying to build my family tree but no one in my immediate family knows or cares about their ancestors. |
