A home page for surnames KELLEY, EAGEN, RYAN, and EGAN. These families had roots in Ireland. They arrived in America in the 1850 and 60s to work on the Erie Canal. John Eagen (b. 1835-1845)and Margaret Kelley gave birth to daughter, Ellen in 1860 in New York State. Son James was born in 1863 in New York State. Working construction and moving west, son Michael was born in Morgan Co., IL in 1866. Son, Martin was born in Springfield, IL in 1871. Another daughter Mary, sons William and John "Jack" made up the family. The family moved west following the railroads as construction men and women of the western rails and roads. |
