However, property records from Lincoln County Missouri have all family members recorded as Gililland as early as 1825, including John Sanford's grandfather, John Richardson Gililland, and his father, Allen Johnson Gililland. In addition, all the grave markers in the Sulphur Lick and Fairview Cemeteries predating 1850 spell the name Gililland. John died in Simpson County, Kentucky, 1849, at the home of one of his daughters, Martha Ann (Gilliland) Reeder.
