John Sanford GILILLAND (son of Allen Johnson GILILLAND and Nancy STEVENS)244, 245 was born January 31, 1845 in Lincoln County, Missouri, and died December 22, 1915 in Decatur, Texas. He married Mary Jane KINEBREW on February 04, 1867 in Washington County, Arkansas.
Notes for John Sanford GILILLAND: John Sanford was eight years old when the family moved from Missouri to Texas. Upon returning home from Civil War, found his mother had died, his father remarried and living in Arkansas. After the Civil war, John returned to Texas only find that his mother had died and his father moved away. From 1864 to 1866 he lived with his cousin, John Wesley Gililland, in McKinney, Texas. In 1866, John moved to Bloomfield, Washington County, Arkansas, in search of his father. There he married, had four sons, and was a manufacturer of wagons and plows. In 1874, he moved to Decatur, Texas, where he had a blacksmith and woodworking shop, was city marshall, and had six more children. His confederate Soldier grave marker shows his name as John S. Gililland. His wife Mary drew a $25 per month stipend from the state of Texas for Confederate veterans until her death in 1935. Both are burined in Decatur, Texas.
