Sarah Brantley attended Kid Key College in Sherman, Texas and
Baptist College in Decatur, Texas, where she met and married
James K. Gililland (later Gilliland). The couple moved to
Farmerville, Oklahoma (Farmerville later became Tipton when the
railroad came through). Sarah was a Sunday School teacher at the
First Baptist Church in Tipton for 35 years and considered the
best read layman in the church. She was the daughter of a
Presbyterian minister.
